Nubuck is top-grain leather that has been sanded or buffed on the outer (grain) side to create a fine, velvet-like nap. Unlike suede — which uses the inner split of the hide — nubuck uses the strongest, most durable part of the skin. The result looks similar to suede but is considerably more wear-resistant.
Hermès uses nubuck in several collections; it's also common in Bottega Veneta's more casual styles. The surface feels warmer and softer than smooth leather while maintaining better durability than suede. It still requires protection against water and oil but responds better to brushing and conditioning than suede.
