Base feet are small metal studs — usually four or five — fitted to the bottom of a bag. They serve a practical purpose: they lift the bag off surfaces, preventing the base leather from direct contact with tables, floors, and other surfaces that cause wear and marking over time.
On quality bags, the feet are securely riveted through the leather base and finished inside with a metal washer that distributes the load. On lower-quality bags, feet are screwed or glued, and can loosen over time. A bag with missing feet will show accelerated base wear, which affects its condition grade and resale value.
