Corner wear refers to the marks that appear on bag corners through normal use. The corners of a bag make the most contact with surfaces — when set down, carried, or stored — and the leather naturally wears first at these points. Signs range from mild (slightly darker, compressed leather), through moderate (visible scuffing or colour loss), to severe (cracked or split leather).
Corner wear is the primary factor in dropping a bag from 'Like New' to 'Excellent' condition, and from 'Excellent' to 'Very Good'. Collectors who prioritise mint condition often add protective corner guards or are exceptionally careful when setting bags down. For most collectors, some corner wear is acceptable and expected for regular-use bags.
